Roger Werner, CPA and Retired Partner, spent nearly all of his adult life in practice as an accountant. His business career began with the U.S. Navy Supply Corp. where he performed accounting services for a small Naval facility from 1969-1972. Coupled with an MBA degree from the University of California - Berkeley with a concentration in accounting, this was enough to assure him that accounting was the right career choice.
He followed the Navy job with four years at the national accounting firm of Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co., and practice in local accounting firms. In 1978 he helped found Vine, Dahlen, Werner & Company which grew into a 20-person accounting practice. In 1999 he split off to form Werner, O'Meara & Co. PLLC with several of his respected colleagues.
Roger's primary focus in practice was tax and financial accounting and consulting for small businesses of all types. He placed an emphasis on tax practice and taught numerous classes and seminars in tax accounting. Among Roger's clients were contractors, professional firms, wholesalers, manufacturers, non-profit organizations and many others. He was one of the first CPAs in Washington to initiate a financial planning and investment advisory practice, and holds the distinction of being the first professional in the state to be both a personal financial specialist and a registered investment advisor.
In April, 2014, Roger entered a new passage in life. Although he continues to provide investment advisory services, he retired from full-time public accounting and set out on his 38' sailboat with his wife, Lynne and dog, Salty. While fulfilling this life long dream, Roger has stayed in touch by writing up periodic reports on his blog site at SV-Schatzi. He says the family has not made any future plans, so all suggestions are welcome!
